Spring Course at the Local & Family History Centre
Archaeology of Herefordshire, with special reference to Bromyard and district

8 Talks on Wednesdays at 7.30 starting 18th January; Venue: Bromyard Local & Family History Centre
and 2 field trips which will probably take place on Saturdays, dates & time to be decided.
Course programme:
1. An overview of Herefordshire’s archaeology and the county service (Dr. Keith Ray, County Archaeologist)
2. The Rotherwas Ribbon: a prehistoric paved way and its archaeology (Ian Bapty, Senior Projects Archaeologist – Resource Assessment)
3. Hillforts in Herefordshire: recent progress (Peter Dorling, Senior Projects Archaeologist – Landscape Archaeology)
4. Archaeological aerial survey in Herefordshire: recent results (Dr. Neil Rimmington, Countryside Advisor – Archaeology)
5. The archaeology of Herefordshire’s parklands (Tim Hoverd, Archaeological Projects Officer)
6. Field trip: Moccas Park (Tim Hoverd, Archaeological Projects Officer) Saturday
7. Edwyn Ralph and medieval rural settlement north of Bromyard Christopher Atkinson, Community Archaeologist)
8. The archaeology of Herefordshire’s medieval market towns: some recent appraisals (Dr. Nigel Baker, Senior Projects Archaeologist – Urban Archaeology)
9. Field trip: the origins and development of Ledbury (Dr. Nigel Baker)
10. Lower Brockhampton: exploring a medieval moated house and its environs (Dr. Keith Ray, County Archaeologist)
Cost: £35 for 8 lectures and 2 field trips.
The field trips will probably take place on Saturdays, dates & time to be decided.
