In addition to the archive material held in the Society’s collection an effort has been made in recent years to extend the scope of books on the locality which provide a valuable part of the service we offer to our users. The book stock is arranged in three main guided categories — the history and topography specifically related to the Bromyard area as covered by the Society – general books on aspects of Herefordshire but containing Bromyard area information together with specific books on adjacent towns such as Ledbury, Leominster and Hereford and lastly a much enlarged section entitled “Background and Self Help Books” which includes items invaluable to those undertaking both local and family history research.
In addition we have a series of booklets on various aspects of genealogy and local history aimed at both the beginner and those with greater experience. We also have an almost complete set of the Transactions of the Woolhope Field Club from 1852 to date. These are fully indexed and contain a wealth of historical, archaeological, and natural history material covering the whole of the County. At present all the books are for reference only – however selected volumes can to be loaned to members of the Society for short periods.
